Jazz No Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia — MAM

Contorno on the late afternoons of Saturdays can check out a large movement of people and cars going to Solar do Unhão, a 16th century building that is the headquarters of the Modern Art of Bahia. The reason is JAM at MAM, a project that brings a special soundtrack to the Museum’s weekends, based on the best style of jam sessions overlooking the sea.
A guaranteed meeting place for local musicians, the project has attracted artists from all over the world who, passing through Bahia, find there a democratic space to listen to Jazz with a “Bahian accent” and exercise the art of improvisation alongside the band Geleia Solar e professional musicians who are a reference in the local market.
JAM no MAM is a project by Huol Criações, under the artistic direction of the musician Ivan Huol and takes place every Saturday at MAM — Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, starting at 18h.
Excellent Brazilian musicians have already played at JAM, as well as artists from the United States of America, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Chile, Cuba, Algeria, Japan and Denmark, among many other countries — and, of course, the cream of the Bahian instrumental scene!

When to go: weather and main events
Best months of sun and beach: from December to Carnival
Months that rain too much: April and May. It rains a lot in June and July.
The feast of Santa Bárbara or Iansã takes place on December 4, in Pelourinho and begins with a mass in the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos.
December 8th, is the feast of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia or Oxum, which takes place in Cidade Baixa, close to Mercado Modelo.
New Year’s Eve is excellent for those staying in Salvador with several live shows, check tickets and availability with Adriane, or the free show at Farol da Barra.
On the 1st of January, we have the maritime procession of Bom Jesus dos Navegantes with boats lined up by the Bay of Todos-os-Santos, the festival of the Lower City.

You can not miss the washing of the Church of Senhor do Bonfim or Oxalá. An 8 km procession between the church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia and the hill of Bonfim. The date changes every year …
