What to visit in Salvador? Practical itineraries for getting to know Salvador…

There are many tours to do in Salvador, start at the Mercado Modelo for those who like local crafts, laces, hats, and souvenirs from Salvador.

Then go up the Lacerda elevator, which is right in front of you, for the price of a few coins, visit the most famous churches of Salvador in Pelourinho and follow the narrow and cobbled streets and see the most beautiful golden churches from the time of the Brazilian Empire.

Visiting the churches costs around 10 USD (all of them) and they are almost all next to each other, and all are worth it, filled with gold on all sides, see below:

Departure in groups of up to 10 people from an input house for homemade beer production and also a craft beer and snack bar in Salvador (Casa Olec Salvador / Confraria do Malte).

We continue on to the neighboring municipality of Lauro de Freitas where we visit up to 4 craft beer factories, knowing the production process, we taste up to 4 types of beer at home, one of them, harmonizing with snacks.

In the end, we return to Casa Olec, where you can continue enjoying snacks (from a delicious “tapioca dough” to a German sausage with mustard).

With check-in and check out at Bahia Marina, we pass the Forte de São Marcelo, with a unique architecture due to its round shape, we arrive at the Itapagipe peninsula where the Bonfim Church, Monte Serrat is located with the old fort and, next to the sea, a graceful 17th-century church and small lighthouse at the tip of Humaitá.

One mile later, you can see the entrance to Enseada dos Tainheiros with several nautical clubs. Opening the way a little, we will already be seeing the Ponta de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe with its beaches of warm and crystalline water, a place very visited by tourists who recently received the blue flag classification and where you can taste various snacks of local cuisine.

The panoramic view of Baía de Todos os Santos that opens up on the hill with the little church justifies the climb. Returning to the boat, we continue to Ilha de Maré, where we have lunch at one of the restaurants we recommend and previously booked.

The very special cuisine of the Recôncavo of Bahia is present with emphasis on the soft crab, prepared in a very special way and, in the end, to taste the exclusive banana sweet made by the local grocers. In this itinerary, for the greater comfort and safety of our customers, all unloading/boarding operations are carried out on a pier.

Finally, time for the return with a slight taste of wanting more. The tour can be inverted, going first to Ilha de Maré and then having lunch at Ilha dos Frades, where the famous Restaurante da Preta is located.

For this enchanting tour, we left Bahia Marina by boat at 3:30 pm, followed to Ponta do Humaitá, an area registered by Iphan.

One of the most advanced areas in the sea of Todos os Santos Bay, from where you can see the islands of Itaparica, Frades, and Maré, the site houses the Lighthouse of Humaitá, the last one built in Salvador (1935) and the only one inside the Bay, the Monte Serrat Fort (1679) and the Church of N. Sra. de Monte Serrat (1580).

Bordering the entire edge of the lower city, viewing the upper city from another angle, we return to Farol da Barra, a beautiful postcard of our city. We enjoy a beautiful sunset and take a bath in the sea in its calm and warm waters. We returned to Bahia Marina arriving around 6:30 pm.

When to go: weather and main events

Best months of sun and beach: from December to Carnival

Months that rain too much: April and May. It rains a lot in June and July.
The feast of Santa Bárbara or Iansã takes place on December 4, in Pelourinho, and begins with a mass in the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos.

December 8th, is the feast of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia or Oxum, which takes place in Cidade Baixa, close to Mercado Modelo.

New Year’s Eve is excellent for those staying in Salvador with several live shows, check tickets and availability with Adriane, or the free show at Farol da Barra.

On the 1st of January, we have the maritime procession of Bom Jesus dos Navegantes with boats lined up by the Bay of Todos-os-Santos, the festival of the Lower City.

Carnival is a separate event, make your reservations in advance, as the prices go up a lot during this period!

You can not miss the washing of the Church of Senhor do Bonfim or Oxalá. An 8 km procession between the church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Praia and the hill of Bonfim. The date changes every year …

For a few, the feast of São Lázaro or Omolu takes place on January 28th. Great to take a bath of popcorn from the "mãe de santo" spiritual white-dressed women who will be in Pelourinho.

February 2nd, dedicated to Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes in the Catholic calendar, is a day of celebration at sea. The city flies to the Red River to greet Iemanjá, at the last big party before the carnival.

Places to feed the body and soul

Casa de Tereza is located at R. Odilon Santos, 45, Rio Vermelho. Tel. (71) 3329–3016

Chef Tereza Paim opens the doors of her home to anyone who arrives and welcomes everyone with open arms.

The Casa de Tereza restaurant, in Rio Vermelho in Salvador, is a diverse and democratic space, an unusual environment that welcomes you as a hug. Here each corner has history, art, and culture. It is where the chef unites her passion for Brazilian and regional cuisine with haute cuisine techniques, rescuing our roots in dishes with a sophisticated flavor and that at the same time bring the simplicity and taste of “home food”.

Dishes where everything misses! It is worth knowing and falling in love …
